The
Olomouc City Hall dates back
from the Middle Ages, and is one of the city's main tourist
attractions. The tower, seen in the above picture, was completed in
1443. Above the arch, you can see a Moravian eagle, the coat-of-arms of
this historical part of the Czech Republic. Underneath the arch lies an
astronomical clock similar to that of Prague.
First built around 1419-1422, the clock has to undergo several repairs,
culminating in a complete reconstruction of its mosaics in 1948-55,
when its "Germanic" design was replaced by representations of happy
workers and peasants.
